Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds to Perform in Concert

JONESBORO – The Arkansas State University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds will continue their 2018-2019 concert season on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall.

Internationally renowned composer John Mackey will be a composer-in-residence during the week and will attend this concert as a special guest.

The Symphonic Winds, conducted by Dr. Sarah Labovitz, associate director of bands at A-State, will perform two of Mackey’s works, “This Cruel Moon” and “Undertow.”  In addition, they will perform “Esprit de Corps” by Robert Jager and “The Gum-Suckers’ March” by Percy Grainger.

The Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Timothy Oliver, director of bands, will perform four of Mackey’s compositions: “High Wire,” “Sheltering Sky,” conducted by graduate student Shawn Crawford, “Strange Humors,” conducted by graduate student Pershauna Johnson, and “Aurora Awakes.”  In addition the Wind Ensemble will perform the masterwork “Symphony in B-flat” by Paul Hindemith.
