Winners announced for annual Hemingway-Pfeiffer Student Art Exhibition
PIGGOTT, Ark. – Winners of the 11th Annual Hemingway-Pfeiffer Student Art Exhibition were announced in a Jan. 12 awards reception at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum in Piggott. The annual juried art competition invites students within a 50-mile radius of Piggott to submit art for exhibition at the museum.
This year, the students’ art was also exhibited at the Thea Foundation Gallery in North Little Rock. Prizes for the competition were provided by the Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer Museum and Study Center.
The first-place winner was Life Tree by Brittany Fair, a sophomore at Rector High School. The second-place winner was “Where the Light Is” by Rob Jacobs, a junior at Cooter High School. The third-place winner was "Burdens" by Kelsey Dunn, a junior at Poplar Bluff High School.
Those receiving honorable mention awards include Sandy Simmons and Kasey Baker of Rector High School; Alex Dalton, Cheyenne Brown, and Tina Slayton of Poplar Bluff High School; Jerica Tate of Piggott High School; and Jazamin Santiago of Corning High School.
Student art was exhibited in North Little Rock Dec. 10-21, 2012 and in Piggott on Jan. 5-12, 2013 with a reception for the artists on Jan. 12. Seven school districts from Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri accepted the invitation to participate in the exhibition.
Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site at 1021 W. Cherry Street, Piggott, Arkansas. Tours are on the hour Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
