Wolves Up Week Planned to Celebrate Start of Fall Semester
JONESBORO – The start of the fall semester at Arkansas State University is just around the corner. Campus planners are getting ready for the arrival of students with a series of events to welcome them to A-State.
Lesleigh Sullivan, a senior criminology major from Little Rock, said these events are great for returning and new students. She said she encourages all students to make time to attend.
“I think the best advice I got when I was a new student is that you will meet no one new in your dorm room, so get out and experience campus,” said Sullivan, who serves as Student Activities Board (SAB) president this year.
"A-State is such a fun place to be, and these events really help show that. We’re also partnering with various campus ministries, the Student Government Association, and more to help bring these events to life. It’s a great chance to get plugged into those organizations too and find your place on campus."
From Sunday, Aug. 10, through Friday, Aug. 15, National Panhellenic Recruitment Week activities will be held. The week culminates on Saturday, Aug. 16, when female students participate in sorority bid day.
Move-in day starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16. University Housing representatives will be available on site to assist students with any questions they may have.
Also happening that day, Wolves Up Week, sponsored by SAB, kicks off with Party with the Pack, held from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Reng Student Union. The event will be held outside, providing free food, lawn games, a photo booth and the opportunity for A-State students to meet new people.
On Sunday, Aug. 17, Splash Bash will take place on Heritage Plaza Lawn from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. At this event, students can cool off with water slides, snow cones, sidewalk chalk and bubbles.
Students can take to the sky from 6 until 9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, during Flight Night.
“I’m super excited for this year’s Flight Night, where we’ll have two hot air balloons giving students the chance to take tethered rides. It’s such a unique and unforgettable way to kick off the year. I can’t wait to see everyone come out and fly,” said Sullivan.
SAB will host this one-of-a-kind event featuring hot air balloons, lawn games and food trucks. The event will be held at the Intramural Fields, located at 401 Red Wolf Trail.
A Silent Disco will take place from 7:30 until 10:30 p.m. at the Red Wolf Center on Tuesday, Aug. 19. At this event, three DJs will be on hand and, while wearing headphones, students can choose which DJ channel to listen to as they dance the night away.
From 8 until 11 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, students can attend Cinema at Centennial. Students will be treated to an outdoor movie night, including popcorn, candy, drinks and a movie voted on by students, at Centennial Bank Stadium.
National Pan-Hellenic Council Meet the Greeks Week will be held from Monday, Aug. 25, through Friday, Aug. 29.
Two more major events are also taking place that week. The annual Community Fair will be held on Heritage Plaza Lawn from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27. This event features representatives from Registered Student Organizations, campus offices, in addition to businesses from the local community.
Order of the Pack will be held at Centennial Bank Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 28. Ahead of the event, a tailgate will be held from 5:30 until 7 p.m. outside the gates of Tailgate City. Attendees can enjoy snowcones, music and sign making.
Starting at 7 p.m., Order of the Pack kicks off where students to the A-State cheers and chants in preparation for the first home football game of the season, which will be held that weekend on Saturday, Aug. 30.
