Writer Margaret Jones Bolsterli to Read from Her Work at ASU’s Delta Symposium XIX, April 19
JONESBORO – Author and editor Margaret Jones Bolsterli will read from her work on Friday, April 19, at 7 p.m. at Arkansas State University’s Delta Symposium XIX. Prior to Bolsterli’s reading, students will read from their contributions to the ASU student literary publication Tributary.
At the conclusion of her reading, to be held in the Spring River Room at the Reng Student Union, Bolsterli will answer questions and sign books. Presented by ASU’s English and Philosophy Department, the reading is free and open to the public.
Born at Watson in Desha County in 1931, Bolsterli was educated at the University of Arkansas, Washington University, and the University of Minnesota. Bolsterli, a mother of two sons, joined the English faculty of the University of Arkansas in 1968. She now is professor emerita.
She has published “The Early Community at Bedford Park: ‘Corporate Happiness’ in the First Garden Suburb” (1977), “Vinegar Pie and Chicken Bread” (1983), “Born in the Delta: The Making of a Southern White Sensibility” (1991), “A Remembrance of Eden: Harriet Bailey Bullock Daniels’ Memories of a Frontier Plantation in Arkansas, 1849-1872” (1993), “During Wind and Rain: The Jones Family Farm in the Arkansas Delta 1848–2006” (2008) and “Things You Need to Hear: Collected Memories of Growing Up in Arkansas, 1890–1980” (2012).
Bolsterli’s presentation is a highlight of this year’s Delta Symposium, April 17-20. Most activities, including the reading, will be held at the Reng Student Union on the ASU campus.
