Biography

Flutist Stephanie Hoeckley is a versatile soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and music educator. Her artistry has been described as “traditionally adventurous” because she enjoys performing traditional works and unconventional modern works with extended techniques. She is in her element when taking creative risks, performing new compositions, and showing the community how captivating and deeply varied classical music can be.

As an active freelance musician, Dr. Hoeckley has performed at the National Flute Association’s Annual Convention and the Flute Society of Washington’s Mid-Atlantic Convention. She has also performed with the West Valley Symphony, Symphony of the Southwest, and the Chandler Symphony, and was a founding member of the Ocotillo Trio. Her chamber music experience includes performances with the Mill Ave Chamber Players wind quintet and the Arizona Musicfest Wind Quartet.

Dr. Hoeckley is a sought-after clinician at music conferences and clinics across the United States due to her unique and engaging workshops, expertise as a teaching artist, and contagious enthusiasm. She has presented workshops for organizations such as the Texas Flute Society and the Florida Flute Association and taught previously at Phoenix College. An advocate of mental and physical health, she teaches her students how to use body awareness, performance psychology, and music gamification to help classical musicians stay happy and healthy while striving for excellence. Her primary teachers include Elizabeth Buck, Carol Wincenc, and Nora Lee Garcia.
