Biography
Dr. Johnson's research focus has been on the population genetics of groups which have been impacted by stocking/harvesting programs or other anthropogenic effects. Research on game fishes has focused on black bass (Micropterus), particularly in regards to phylogenetics and comparisons of performance and hybridization of Florida bass stocking programs in Arkansas. Trout research has included studies on bioenergetics and feeding of brown trout in cold tailwater systems. Non-game research has involved the genetic study of species in decline, such as the yellowcheek darter, impacted by the downstream impoundment of the Little Red River, and the Illinois chorus frog, impacted by precision leveling of Arkansas farmland. Genetic tools used include allozymes, mtDNA, AFLPs and microsatellites.
