Biography

Dr. Knight’s academic training and 12 years of clinical work in community mental health has provided her a well-rounded experience in the field of social work. In the clinical setting she has worked with diverse populations and understands the need for inclusion and acceptance in the therapeutic process. As a professor at Arkansas State University, she continues to stress the need for cultural awareness, inclusion and acceptance, and provides students with real life social work examples. She encourages students to imagine themselves in the place of both the clinician and the client.

Dr. Knight currently serves on the Board of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Arkansas Chapter as the Northeast Arkansas Representative and also volunteers with other national, state and local organizations. Dr. Knight graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Doctorate of Social Work in May 2017. Her Capstone II project at the University of Tennessee was entitled: Clinicians and Treatment: Perceived Barriers to Psychotherapeutic Treatment of Rural Mental Health Professionals. In addition to her Capstone II research, she is also interested in research in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction as an intervention for persons with terminal illness and/or in hospice care, as well as persons who are incarcerated.
