Biography

Mary Medrick is an accomplished writer, music director and performer with many international credits, including pianist for the premiere of Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess in Israel.  As a multi keyboardist and vocalist, Medrick has performed in 15 countries, and appeared on the Bowdoin Music Festival in Maine and the Festival Cervantino in Mexico City and Guanajuato, Mexico.  She has performed with the Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Dallas Summer Musicals, the Charleston Symphony, Richardson Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (Guadalajara, MX) and numerous performances with chamber groups.

Medrick has conducted major choral works, as well numerous musical theater shows, including A Christmas Carol (Dallas Theater Center), The Threepenny Opera (UNT), Titanic (Dallas JCC) and Curtains (Theatre Coppell).  Her arrangements of jazz vocals and music for industrial shows have been often performed.

While on the faculty of University of Texas at Dallas, Medrick taught piano, theory, composition, and served as Director of Music from 2017-2020. Medrick is a member of the American Federation of Musicians and is a recipient of numerous ASCAP Special Awards for performances of her original works, including three opera libretti and three musical theater scores.
