Haeshin Shin holds a B.M. degree from Seoul National University (Cum Laude) and a M.M. degree from Boston University. In 2018, with her dissertation “Nikolai Medtner’s Forgotten Melodies, op. 38: Sources, Analysis, and Interpretation”, she completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Boston University, where she studied with Boaz Sharon. During her study at Boston University, she received the Piano Department Award and College of Fine Arts Scholarship, and has been elected as a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.
Ms. Shin formed the Medtner Society of Korea in 2016 with pianist Hanna Choi, co-founder, to introduce the music of Nikolai Medtner to the audience in her native country South Korea. Meanwhile, she has collaborated internationally with instrumentalists and singers to promote Medtner’s works: She gave all- Medtner program concerts at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and in Boston, and performed Medtner’s works at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, Netherlands. As a guest artist at Boston University Tanglewood Institute, she gave a lecture recital presenting an overview of Medtner’s piano literature. Her paper on Medtner’s piano music appeared in the Russian journal in 2016, and has been selected at the International Conference "Russian Music Archives Abroad; Foreign Music Archives in Russia (2017)”. Her passion for Russian music and art led to collaboration with Russian living composer Alexander Radvilovich, and Haeshin gave a joint recital with Radvilovich as a part of the Educational Bridge Project’s 32nd Russian-American festival in 2017.
Ms. Shin won prizes at American Protégé Concerto Competition, Richmond Piano Competition, International Competition for Pianists in Memory of Shande Ding and Bradshaw and Buono International Competition. She has appeared in solo recitals, concerts, and festivals throughout the US, Russia, UK, Luxemburg, Belgium, Puerto Rico, China, and Korea. During the recent seasons she has performed at Seoul Arts Center (Korea), Stern Auditorium & Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall), Harvard Musical Association (Boston), and Pushkin Hall (New York), among others. Haeshin’s performance in the 75th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein Piano Recital at Lenox Library was broadcast on CTSB, the public channel in the Berkshires, MA. As a collaborative pianist, she was granted a fellowship at Garth Newel Music Center, and went on concert tours with Boston College High School Concert Choir in Washington, D.C. including the White House Holiday Performance Talent, Ireland, UK, and Spain. In the fall of 2019, she joined the piano faculty at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
