Biography

Dr. Allegra N. Fisher earned her Doctorate in music curriculum and instruction from Kansas State University where she served as a graduate teaching assistant conducting and writing drill for the marching band, directing the basketball and volleyball bands, and conducting Concert Band, Woodwind Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble. Her dissertation was focused on student leadership development in university marching bands - a topic she continues to explore. Prior to her doctoral program, Dr. Fisher completed her master’s degree in ethnomusicology at University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland and her Bachelor’s in Music at K-State. Dr. Fisher has been teaching in Iowa at Dordt University as Assistant Director of Instrumental Ensembles and as Band/Choir Director at Sioux Center Christian School. At Dordt, she began the first athletic band and conducted the Campus Community Band. At Sioux Center Christian School, she focused on growing the middle school bands, including the jazz band, teaching private lessons, and beginning a drum line. Dr. Fisher writes drill for high school marching bands, continues to perform on bassoon, and is an active adjudicator, guest conductor, and clinician for concert and athletic ensembles in Kansas, Iowa, and South Dakota.
