Biography
Dr. Lucas Kaspar is the Instructor/Artist of Trombone at Arkansas State University. Before moving to A-State, Kaspar was an Assistant Professor of Music at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he conducted the Concert Band and taught applied low brass. He has also been on the music faculty at Muskingum University and Ohio Wesleyan University.
As a professional musician, Kaspar has performed with many orchestras throughout the United States, including the Buffalo Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Amarillo Symphony, Wheeling Symphony, Youngstown Symphony, and Norman Philharmonic.
Dr. Kaspar is passionate about chamber music and promoting the trombone in every setting possible. He is a founding member of the Ohio Trombone Quartet, which recently performed Jeff Cortazzo’s 4 Horseman of the Apocolypse with the 77th Army Band. He also formed the TromboKordion Duo, a unique music duo, performing a wide variety of new music for trombone and accordion. The duo has commissioned several new compositions, including Opa’s Yodel, performed at the 2023 International Trombone Festival. Kaspar recorded Illusion, an album of new music for bass trombone and saxophone in 2023. The album will be release to the public in 2024.
Kaspar is a sought after adjudicator. He has recently adjudicated the George Roberts International Bass Trombone competition, the Big 12 National Bass Trombone competition, and the Oklahoma High School All-State Band final auditions.
Dr. Kaspar completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance at The Ohio State University in 2018, where he served as the teaching associate for the trombone studio. He holds a Masters of Music in trombone performance degree from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Muskingum University. Kaspar’s primary teachers include Joseph Duchi, Jon Whitaker, Joseph Rodriguez, and George Curran.
