Research Interests
The Berman lab has an overall focus on hypertension and the molecular, genetic, physiological, organismal, and social regulators of blood pressure. Projects tend to focus on molecular biology. We have a special interest in the Epithelial Sodium Channel (ENaC) and its role in regulating blood pressure.
Projects which undergraduates could work on:
- Naked mole rat hypercapnic adaptations:
- The main research question of this project is how naked mole rat kidneys are able to handle the excess acid load from being in extremely high CO2 environments.
Surface plasmon resonance:
- In this project which spans molecular biology and biochemistry we are developing a microfluidic and surface plasmon resonance device to study the activity of proteases in biological fluids.
